About Us

Chartered Certified Accountants in PeterboroughThe Company

Our professional team works flexibly, effectively and with integrity to deliver a first class accounting service – designed around you.

At the helm of Winham Hughes Chartered Certified Accountants and Tax Advisers are Sally Winham and Paul Hughes. The partners met while working at the Cambridgeshire office of a national accountancy firm. Their passion for accountancy was mirrored by their shared passion for customer service: this became the bedrock for the firm.

Winham Hughes out grew the original offices within just two years and is now based in purpose-built offices in Hampton, Peterborough. Although a relatively young brand, Winham Hughes has a combined accountancy experience of almost 40 years.

The partners recognise our success runs parallel to yours. That’s why you can be confident your business sits at the heart of ours.

Sally Winham

We chose the Winham Hughes strapline ‘more than just numbers’, not just because it explains our personalised service but because that’s an area of work we both particularly enjoy.

Witnessing that light bulb moment when a client doesn’t just take my advice but genuinely understands the reasoning behind it is very rewarding. I see that as an integral part of my job as a professional and the only way that clients can feel entirely comfortable with the decisions being made.

I like to think that attention to detail coupled with sound advice is what has enabled me to retain such a consistent personal portfolio of clients – some for well over a decade.

I qualified 17 years ago and have worked as a Chartered Tax Adviser since then. Of course, legislation, rules, regulations and the economy change and providing timely advice within that framework is vital. Networking, talking to other professionals and an on-going involvement with the Chartered Institute of Taxation are built into my working life to ensure my knowledge and expertise remain relevant and up to date.

Paul Hughes

I like to think I don’t fit into the ‘traditional accountant’ mould. I deliver the full remit of accountancy services but my relationships with clients extend much further. I am regularly asked to attend management meetings or get involved in strategy brainstorms. Investing that time in really seeing how a client operates and understanding their processes means I can tailor my advice on development, implementation and delivery of accounting systems, and overall business strategy.

I began my accountancy career 16 years ago and built up many years of experience at the local office of a national firm before joining forces with Sally to set up Winham Hughes.

I work with a wide range of clients, including individuals, sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, UK subsidiaries of overseas companies across a number of different sectors.

As Winham Hughes has developed we are proud to have become involved with the professional and wider community in Peterborough through awards sponsorship, the hosting of seminars and involvement with colleges through trainee programmes.

Helen Anderson

One of Winham Hughes’ selling points is its flexibility to meet clients’ requirements and match their processes. That is evident internally too and was one of the key elements that appealed to me about working here.

I graduated with a law degree and am now a chartered accountant. I worked at Ernst and Young and then in industry so was very familiar with the corporate world. But it was no longer working for me. I wanted something more flexible where I could get involved in different aspects and really feel I was adding value.

That’s what I’ve found at Winham Hughes. The scope is there for me to not only shape the role to suit me but also to have an input into the direction the firm takes in the future.

My background enables me to work with clients on accountancy and tax issues as well as supporting the work that Sally and Paul do. Working in a small firm means each member of the team is involved with each client. That ensures that every client enjoys the benefit of the best specialist advice in every area of their finances.

Having worked as a financial controller in a commercial environment I understand the importance of efficient processes and systems, good relationships and up to date information. That’s what I aim to deliver in my role at Winham Hughes.

love the flexibility - I spend a lot of my time at clients’ sites, managing their payroll and book-keeping. Some clients engage me regularly while others use me on a more ad hoc basis, to cover holiday or sickness.
